John R. Howley grew up working on a sunflower farm in Connecticut. Now he lives in Manhattan as a graduate of Columbia University’s B.A. theatre program. At Columbia, John won three College awards for his work as a student-actor.

John’s feature film debut, Bleeding (2024) in the States at Dances with Films NY, a Top 10 film festival per USA TODAY. In the movie, John has top billing as the courageous central protagonist fighting to save his family from addiction. According to reviews, “Howley digs his teeth into the intricacies of his character in a way that sheds light on the complex nature of knowing a drug addict” (B-sides & Badlands). Bleeding was featured in Variety for winning DWFNY’s Best Midnight Feature award.

John also spends considerable time in Irish pubs as the bunaitheoir and uachtarán (founder and president) of GAELTACHT NYC, an organization that hosts events for Irish speakers.

In his free time, John enjoys apple fritter french toast, Murder She Wrote, and biking on the Westside Highway.
